I did not work at Sony so long as to learn all of their models and there were a lot of them. I have had help fixing some of these when I got stuck. There are many guys out there that have greater knowledge than I do about Studer, Pioneer and Sony decks. I too have had people help me with repairs on decks as well. I am still learning on decks that I repair even after 40 years of doing it. When I get corrected, and it does happen, I learn the lesson and am better for it. It is just sometimes when I read a lot of posts that are suggesting a reason or solution that is way off I just have to speak up. I make no money in the intimidation of other posters. If the deck had been abused then I said so, I did not hide the fact to make the machine seem the problem not the user. I have always been straightforward about things I find on a deck even when I was at Teac. Please do not take my words of correction as those of a demeaning nature. As I have always told people on the phone at Teac and after- if you want to know what deck to buy, talk to a Technician. I have always liked this deck and probably why I have 8 of them here. The C-3RX is a C -3 transport with dBx built in and adjustable bias on the front panel. The real sherman tank of Teac was the Tascam 122 which is based of the C-3 transport which existed before the 122 did. Now the Z6000 is in a class by itself due to the design but if you understand it's function and capabilities you will want one. These model are like the Tascam 122 (B), the Teac C-3RX, The V900X, Teac C-1, Teac V1RX, The Teac Z6000. The older great decks of the past and you need to know which ones they are will with maintenance outlast anything they can come up with and in fact have already proven this by still being around even 20 years past their release date. Where is the gear?- way deep down inside the transport and many newcomers to deck repairs are not going to like this at all. Once that happens it goes into error mode keeping your tape. With time the lubrication dries and the gear eventually crack teeth. They also make use of a gear type cam system. They fail all the time and I have seem more than my share of failed motors- the part is about $120 if you can get one and then it will do the same thing- they are all defectively designed- NO? Ask Teac for a lifetime warranty on one as see what they say. Well maybe it was not but it sure behaves like one. These are the direct drive capstan motor which I have said was made in China. The 122 MK III has a number of issues that while they look good at first do not make for a long term tape deck. Click to expand.Too many people have an affection for the 122 MkIII while every technician that works on them knows as the I, II, III increased the quality went down.
